Have you always wanted to run a mile while drinking beer every .25 miles?
There’s something about beer and running, don’t you think? That’s why running clubs are sometimes based at breweries. Other running clubs make pitstops at bars. Then there’s the Sports City Beer Mile – a run that actually promotes drinking beer… while running.
A long long time ago, there was a drinking-running race around the baseball stadium downtown. That was a couple of decades ago. I remember it well. Since that time (it was a one-off), I never heard about anyone organizing anything similar… until now. And this event is not a one-off.
“Sports City Beer Mile #3 is the third iteration of the classic and traditional beer mile,” said Mike Rizzo, owner of Sports City Pizza Pub. “The concept is simple. Drink one 12oz beer, run 1/4 mile, and repeat 4x. The fastest (male and female) to complete is crowned champion. There are hopes in 2023 to create a Beer Mile circuit with the likes of Runner’s Roost, and other bars and beer shops throughout Buffalo!”
According to Mike, this race is quickly becoming a fan favorite during the holidays. The upcoming race is being held on Sunday, November 27 at 11am. There is not a Bills game on that day, which means that it’s the perfect time to be outdoors, running and drinking.
