While driving over to Niagara Street the other day, I spotted this house on Buffalo s West Side. I had seen it before on other occasions, but it never actually made we want to pull over to take a second look until then. When I examined the found objects that decorate the outside I was amazed to see just how many different items the occupants used to pull off this eclectic look. The house reminded me of how birds collect shiny objects for their nests to attract attention to themselves and their homes.
Upon closer inspection I spied Whiffle Balls, Frisbees, shopping carts, baskets, dishes, flags, bells and numerous other ornaments hanging from string or nailed to the porch. As I took the photo a group of kids wandered by without paying any heed to the attraction. I suppose the house has been ‘in the works’ for a long time and has now found a place in the community that might appreciate it for its eclecticism? I could not help but marvel at the structure… actually, it was hard to see the structure.
So what do you think? Is it art? Does it even need to be labeled art? Would you like to live next door to this creation?
