Where The Dogs In Buffalo Roam

Do more places in the city need to reexamine the existing policies? Will dogs be welcome to visit the Commercial Slip? What are other cities doing to enhance or limit what dogs can or cannot do? I talked to the owners of a restaurant the other day that mentioned that down the road they might have dog parties on their patio (on a Sunday when the business is normally closed). With the advent of dog bakeries, specialty dog shops, dog parties, dog biscuit stands and dog parks and beaches... is Buffalo going to the dogs? I'm personally for it, but then again, I am a dog person.

Maybe you read about this one last December, or maybe you took the time and looked over this one in April, and perhaps you considered attending this event back in June. Whatever your reasoning for putting it off, there’s no time like the present for Forgotten Buffalo, unless of course it’s the past.
Forgotten Buffalo Tours take participants on a journey into the history of the area, always striving to produce a unique and entertaining outing. Their success has allowed them to …
Last evening was the first time that I have ever attended the event, Party for the Parks held at the Marcy Casino. The parks gala started up just as the Burchfield-Penney showing was winding down, and has happened more than a few times this summer, the non-stop rain kept everyone guessing. By guessing, I mean that every time the band members would even look at their instruments the rain would start to fall. It was a good thing that the upper terrace was covered and the Marcy Casin …
According to Miguel Santos, one of the founders of the Puerto Rican Day Parade of WNY, starting the parade six years ago was a way of “recognizing that Buffalo’s Latino population continues to grow and we decided that it would be a great way to recognize this segment of the population.” Inspired by the National Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC, Santos, who is a local activist in the Latino community, got a call from Jose Rodriguez, and the rest is history.
Santos says, “We …
For the first time in over a hundred years, Buffalo has unveiled a brand new ($33,000,000, 84,000 sq.’) museum. Yesterday, hundreds of people met at the Burchfield-Penney Art Center to witness, not one, but three, ribbon cuttings. Fans and supporters were greeted by trumpeting didgeridoos as they walked into the vaulting entranceway – a walk that led them past the museum café, the gift shop, the learning center, a conference center, studios, gallery spaces, and more gallery s …

Ugh, I would never go to any restaurant that became "dog friendly." Sorry, I prefer my food without flying animal hair and allergy attacks.

I too am a dog person; a consderate dog person. I don't feel that dogs should be welcomed everywhere and when they are welcomed, I feel strongly that the dog's owner must be aware of the surroundings and insure that the dog's behavior is acceptable. Too often, I've witnessed dog owners totally oblivious to the agressive behavior of their pet; ignoring cleaning up after their dog and that the dog is uncomfortable in crowds - not to mention the number of dog owners that feel that their pet is so well trained that it is permissable for them to be off leash even though there are leash laws. My dog is very much a part of my family and I regret not being able to bring him everywhere with me, however, just as I didn't bring my children to adult functions, I leave Max at home when I am going to 'No dogs allowed" areas.

How about special times for dogs. Before 9am and/or after 8pm.

Of course dogs should be allowed on the waterfront. It is totally sensless that there are all these No's down there. No dogs, No fishing, No skating, No cooking....Why would anyone want to visit when all you can do is buy overpriced food from the Hatch hoping a seagull doesn't crap on your shirt watching the dead fish float around the inner harbor. If it is outside and public then dogs should be allowed to go as well as people...on a leash of course. The dogs not the people :-) The restaurant idea is a little different but if a usiness wants to do it then all the better.

When in Germany I was amazed at the scope of places that people could bring their dogs. It was common to see them in malls and department stores. It was nice I liked that. Then again they ALL had the most well behaved dogs I ever saw. They barely would turn their head to sniff other animals or people. Just went about walking with their master.

People who bring dogs to festivals or parades should be given tickets and told to take their dogs home - NO EXCEPTIONS! People centered events that take place on the streets are not good places to bring dogs.

I like dogs but we do need to remember they are animals and should be treated that way. I do not want to eat next to a dog who licks it own butt all day long. Dogs should be allowed in out door place but they are animals and should stay on the leash. I would hate to go down to the marina and see dog S*** all over the place. I have noticed that delaware park has many dogs off the leash and I personally don't like it.

Does anyone know of a beach in Buffalo to take your dog to. I know the state and county parks allow dogs on the property but when I went to Evangola state beach yesterday I was harassed by the on duty life guard who told me to remove my dog as she was a public health hazard and it is against NY State Law to have a dog on a beach. I know this is not entirely true as I went home and looked it up and there were other dog owners at Wendt beach when I went there.
