Website Update - Refresh

Story Options

Based on user feedback, we've been trying to make changes to the website to improve load times.

We've made a few changes over the past couple weeks which modified how images from the site are loaded to your computers. As a result of these changes, some users who come back to buffalorising.com after visiting the site last week may not see new stories as soon as the site loads. If you are experiencing this problem, you simply need to hit the refresh button in your browser to load all the latest content. Once you hit refresh once and the new content loads, you will not have to refresh again on future visits.

We're continually looking at ways to make the site more user-friendly - including speeding up the site's load time and functionality. We don't anticipate future changes will create user issues but if they do we'll be sure to update users.

That makes sense. Thanks for letting us know I was wondering why i had to keep hitting refresh even if I haven't used the site from a certain computer for a few days.

Thanks, thought the site had shut down for awhile there. Scared me becouse without my blogs, what would the "big ass" drink crowd have to do all day if they could not spend it single staring me?...LOL

So reassuring to learn I am not the only one!

BTW: could you folks clean up my unwitting duplicate posts on the Bflo Control Bd public hearing thread?

    Thanks,

Also if you could take down the 'channel sponser' advertisment for Cozumel. It annoys me that they are advertising 'specials' all week long for cinco de mayo. Guess what everyone, for the special price of 4 bucks, you can get a corona or various other mexican beer all week long. I'm really, 4 bucks is a 'special'! What is the regular price for mexican piss, 4.50 or 5 bucks a bottle? It just really bothers me, paying big city prices for a drink at some of these joints. If i was a 2 beer @#$% it wouldnt be a big deal, but on a nice hot summer afternoon, i can easily put back a good 7-10 of these suckers. I like place and would go there much more often if it wasn't for there insane drinks prices.

My only suggestions for the site is to *please* eliminate all the moving ads in the left-hand column (they're very distracting; can't you just have static ones? Or at least ones that stop moving after a few seconds, like most web magazines?) And also, I don't know why but for some reason the images on the main page often seem of much lower quality than they appear after I click the link. Maybe this is to reduce load times, but it still makes the site look a little shabby at times. Please understand that I mean these comments constructively. I really love reading Buffalo Rising!

It would be nice if when someone posted a response on a topic, that it would refresh the site and bring that article to the top of the list.

A lot of times, conversations grow stale because the article was from last week and on page 5.

    Know what I mean?

The site is still unbelievably slow.

posting has been a pain recently Seems like I can watch it load my post for a solid 45 seconds many times. This is even from a T3 line at work...

I was getting filing work done while waiting for screens. Seems faster now. How about larger font here in the comment box so we can see our typooos. Now let's see how fast comment posting is.. Previously it took what seems like minutes!

Adding the above comment only took 35 seconds. I guess you still have some work to do.

DanielSack, depending on which browser you use you can increase the default font size within the software itself.

I would second the comment about aging stories. Maybe if there was a discussion channel that would keep an updated lists of the most active threads. That way it wouldn't get in the way of the normal chronological flow of the site but allow people to follow older stories before they disappear into the abyss of past pages.

Its always seems like when I subscribe to a article, I end up getting tons of dublicate new comments emailed to me. For instance I just subscribed to one article and was sent 3 of the same comment, a comment that was not even a new comment.
