The Pleu Building
Ellicott Development is putting the finishing touches on its 31,000 sq.ft. expansion of the Pleu Building located at 361 Delaware Avenue. Lawley Insurance Group will lease the new addition plus the second and third floors of the historic 1924 building. Lawley will bring 130 people to the building once the insurance agency moves in.
Their move expands and restores a Delaware Avenue building and furthers a resurgence that's taking place in the Delaware Avenue-Tupper Street area. Ani DiFranco is restoring the Delaware Asbury United Methodist Church into her offices and a performance center. Hallwalls is also relocating to the church. Mark Croce opened Laughlin's Restaurant at the corner of Franklin and Tupper directly behind the Pleu expansion and Uniland Development is planning a five-story office building for the vacant lot next to WGRZ on Delaware Avenue.
Lawley is currently located in the Erlanger Building at 120 Delaware Ave. That building is slated to be acquired by the federal General Services Administration and demolished to make way for the federal courthouse project on Niagara Square. Lawley has been located downtown since its founding in 1945.

Sabres V Preds Game 24
Four games in 6 nights certainly marks a rough patch in a schedule, and the Buffalo Sabres showed what kind of toll it can take by losing to the Nashville Predators 2-0 on home ice.

They did do a wonderful job on the building but missed an opportunity to create more street life by adding retail on the first floor.
Imagine this scenario - you have just visited a Hallwalls exhibition in the newly restored Asbury Church across the street. You walk outside and then decide to get something to eat, maybe a glass of wine and a slice of cheescake. Wouldn't it be nice to simply be able to cross the street and have those amenities right there!!
Visitors from out of town or in the suburbs may stay longer and enjoy doing this having a spectacular view of the newly restored church - so why not?
It would be easily created by taking away a few parking spots on the first floor. Adding eyes and life on the street will naturally increase safety.
While I applaud the dissapearance of a surface parking lot, increasing the vibrancy downtown and providing more street life is more of what our city needs!

I was sitting with my friend after work yesterday at Laughlins on Tupper and Franklin and the view outside the window, across Franklin, was the new addition to the Pleu building and I said to the bartender, "that's a very tasteful, architectually sensitive addition." He agreed. Congratulations to the Pleu building owners for a great addition making the already beautiful Buffalo urban scene that much better.

Retail space on the first floor would be ideal. The one corner already has the Ultimate Mens Shop, now we need to fill these other first floor offices into RETAIL Stores. Imangine this part of Delaware Ave. a unique/upscale retail district.
