The Falafel Bar Opens In Allentown

I spoke to a couple of business owners on the block who told me that they were beyond happy to have the Falafel Bar hit Allentown. The added foot traffic will give the entire business community a major boost. And the restaurant presentation will also be a huge asset. As we finished our meal we commented on the lively conversation that rose above the Middle Eastern music - I don't think that The Falafel Bar could have asked for a better opening day lunch crowd. At this point forty seats might not be enough considering there were close to thirty already occupied and more people were walking in.
The Falafel Bar will soon be open at 69 Allen Street. 716-882-2680

The City's Lafayette Ice Rink on Tacoma Avenue will be getting nearly $200,000 in city-funded capital improvements according to a statement by Mayor Byron W. Brown.
The money will go toward the first significant infrastructure improvements to the sports facility since it was opened in 1989. Though it’s always hockey season here in Buffalo, winter brings an added glee to the sport – it’s the season the sport was created in. Since the sport was created in the cold of winter, it seems it gains a bit more attention when the temperature begins to drop. Not only does hockey take an added shine, but ice skating in general gets a peak in interest. People want to take their sweetheart to the rink – indoor or outdoor – have those time honored smiles and laughs as the …
Canisius College purchased HealthNow's former headquarters at 1901 Main Street yesterday from Uniland Development Co. The three-story building will be transformed into Science Hall, an interdisciplinary science center. Canisius paid $18.45 million for the building and an adjacent parking ramp. HealthNow relocated to downtown in 2007.
City officials and project partners celebrated the completion of the first fifteen homes at Sycamore Village yesterday. Work started on the project at the corner of Jefferson Avenue and Sycamore Street one year ago. When complete, the development will include 20 market rate homes and four low to moderate-income units, many built along a new street, Sydni Lane, and fronting a landscaped common area.

Congratulations Falafel Bar and Allentown, as commerce creeps ever so slowly east down Allen Street, one can only imagine the impact as commerce and employment base collide at the intersection of Allen Street and Main through to the 8,000+ employees on the Medical Campus via the Allen Street Extension.
One could imagine a transit oriented development which encourages a large number of employees arriving to the medical campus via a combination of train, bus and foot power and finally the disconnect that is Main Street is bridged and VOILA!!! the eastern end of Allen Street is happening with life, commerce and leisure. Currently, it stinks of ashes and piss along the Red Jacket and various houses of ill repute. Someday may be here sooner than we think!
