The Boats Are Back!
Members of the Olmsted Conservancy can take the boats out whenever they want (membership is cheap too). For anyone who is not a member, a $10 payment gives you half an hour on Hoyt Lake. Heck, membership is only $30. And this year the rules are much more lax. You can bring food and beverages with you (what a great decision!) and the distance range has been extended as well. This summer, boaters can go under the two bridges all the way over to the Japanese Gardens.
I spoke to someone recently who said that the Historical Society may one day even set up a café on the back steps overlooking the lake. Can you imagine being able to row over to a café? That would be pretty cool. Kinda like a more permanent Party on the Portico.
The Rotary Club pitched in for a boat, and John donated a boat... my understanding is that soon there might be corporate sponsorship opportunities. There are also plans to build a wedding boat at some point where photo ops will take place. Now we need to get the Solar Boat Races back on the lake and a refreshment stand close by.

This is great. Hopefully we'll have some ice to play on next winter as well.
I hope they can avoid corporate sponsorship. One thing I don't want to look at when relaxing in Delaware Park is advertisements for Health Insurance Companies, banks, or Personal Injury Attorneys.

This is great news! Does anyone know if BYOB will be permitted? ("bring your own boat"). Not that I'm trying to save the very reasonable rental fee of ten bucks, but I'd rather paddle around in my own kayak or canoe.

Mike I don't see why not it is water and therefore probably covered under some rights to water law. Who knows but I saw a couple people out there in Kayaks on Saturday and it didn't appear anyone was harassing them.
