Support Cultural Row @ Elmwood Festival

Story Options

This weekend is the Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts, an event that helps to promote the arts, as well as the City of Buffalo as a whole. One of the unique features of this festival is the committeeis policy to include a section of the event that is dedicated to Buffalois non-profits. Cultural Row allows non-profit groups to promote programs that they feel are valuable to the community. At the festival, these groups disseminate information, hold raffles, answer questions, search for volunteers, and contribute to the overall positive nature of the event.

One of the groups that will participate in Cultural Row this year is Creative Edge Arts Studio (CEAS), a unique resource for adults recovering from mental illness and or addiction. An expressive arts therapy program for which art experience is not necessary, Creative Edge is making a wonderful difference in the lives of its participants. A few participants have gained full-time employment (an improbable goal before their Creative Edge experience), others are pursuing further art programs, and most participantsi depression and anxiety has significantly reduced. Participants constantly express their deep appreciation for the program.

Creative Edge is unduplicated in Western New York, and is highly unusual most anywhere. Currently, the program is offered at no charge. Creative Edge is innovative in its work (born of an organization with a legacy of encouraging out-of-the-box thinking) and in its efforts to achieve financial stability.

Cultural Row is located on Breckenridge Avenue this year. CEAS is provided through the Monsignor Carr Institute of the Catholic Charities of Buffalo. They are located at the Tri-Main Center 2495 Main Street, Suite #412. (716)862.0367.
