So You Want to be an Art Collector?

This prestigious exhibition is a once-a-year opportunity to see a composite of many accomplished Western New York artists that have been selected by the Albright-Knox curatorial staff. 212 pieces of artwork from 172 of the best known and newly discovered area artists are on display.
All media, from sculpture and collage to oils, acrylics, watercolors, and photography is represented.
Thirty-four pieces were chosen by the curators as Selected Highlights. Many of these pieces will then be presented in a special show at the Albright-Knox.
"The mission we are accomplishing is starting collectors," according to Sandra Honny, who chaired the show. "We present affordable art that people can buy or rent. Then they can try things and begin to develop their own taste and style, and learn about area artists and art."
"A number of our big collectors in Buffalo began by renting and buying through the Collector's Gallery," Honny said.
There is something affordable here for almost everyone, with prices starting at $50 and topping out at $4200, with a median range of $250 - $900. Rentals are $10 - $35. The Collectors Gallery offers the artwork for yearly rental or purchase.
Whether you are looking to become familiar with area artists, discover new ones, or view favorite artists work--some of whom are working in new styles--this is the perfect show. With such a large selection of artists, everyone is bound to find something that speaks to them.
The 2008 Annual Area Artist Show will be on display in Clifton Hall, adjacent to the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, starting Friday, April 25 from 10AM to 8PM, and Saturday, April 26 and Sunday April 27, from 10 to 5.
There will be an Artist Reception on Friday April 25 from 5 to 7 in the evening, and the show will be open to the general public until 8 that night.
The Collectors Gallery is open Wednesday and Thursday from noon to 4, Friday from Noon to 8, Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 4.

Back in April, Melanie Majewski submitted a wonderful article on Errol Daniels. In it, she goes in to great detail about the artist’s background and photographs. She also makes mention of a show coming to Buffalo once a venue was found. That venue has finally been named: El Museo at 91 Allen Street.
Next Friday, September 12th from 7 PM until 10 PM there will be an Opening Reception for the artist. The exhibit consists of Daniels’ photography which centers on creating portrai …
A week after his 83rd birthday and on the eve of a new year, Michael Goldberg collapsed in his Manhattan studio. He died of a heart attack and the world lost one of the few remaining survivors of the New York School and a major abstract expressionist painter. What’s nice about being an artist is that even when you are gone, your work lives on forever. Bringing this influential artist to Buffalo is the UB Anderson Gallery. They are presenting a memorial exhibit entitled “Ode to …
Vincent Gallo, he of Buffalo 66 and The Brown Bunny, will be at Soundlab on September 25th with his band, RRIICCEE.

As for his music, here is an excerpt from Radford's take on Gallo: This is not experimental music made for the sake of experimentation. As Gallo explains, improvisation is …

The work chosen for this show by the AK curatorial staff is quite impressive and the AK collectors gallery staff is first rate.
