Story Options

six%20nations.JPG Another business displaced as a result of the proposed hotel at Elmwood and Forest has found a happy new home ,Aei this time on the happening Hertel Avenue. Six Nations Native-American Gift Shop has settled into a fitting new storefront near Commonwealth, creating a refreshing neighborhood strip filled with cultural shops of all kinds. The area is a great destination if you're a shopper looking for an original, quality item you can't find in the busier shopping districts.

Six Nations embraces Native American culture by selling all native crafts, many handmade by Indians throughout Buffalo and its surrounding regions. The shop has a beautiful display of real turquoise jewelry and beadwork, and a very impressive collection of carved arrow heads. From authentic leather moccasins to water drums to handmade dream catchers, Six Nations is a glimpse into the culture and craftsmanship of Native Americans. And on a busy day, it saves those interested in learning about native products the 40-minute drive to the reservation.

Wow, this area certainly has changed. I remember the corner area of Hertel and Commonwealth as a kid in the early-mid 1980's. The area was full of old world deli's, and dirty looking antique stores. What a difference, Looking great!

Now if someone could convince Home Of The Hits to not close and move to this stretch of Hertel, disaster will truly have been averted.
