Silent Film Fest Accompanied by Pianist Philip Carli

September 23 , 2005 5 - 8 pm: Art Activity - Fun for all ages. Enhance, engage, and expand your experience of the special exhibition Extreme Abstraction with artist Clare Woods.
5 pm and 8 pm: Silent Film Screening with Discussion and Live Accompaniment- University at Buffalo faculty members Diane Christian and Bruce Jackson will lead a discussion about the silent films The General and Sunrise. Philip Carli will accompany the films on piano.
5 p.m. The General: (1927) is an imaginative masterpiece of dead-pan, "Stone-Face" Buster Keaton comedy, generally regarded as one of the greatest of all silent comedies (and Keaton's own favorite) - and undoubtedly the best train film ever made.
8 p.m. Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927) is a fable-like, poignant story, directed by F. W. Murnau. It is a silent-era melodramatic masterpiece n a beautiful, atmospheric, lyrical, and poetic work of art with roots in the German expressionist movement. This story of corruption and redemption involves a rustic farmer in a rural town who falls prey to the seductive wiles of a city vamp in an illicit affair.
6 - 10 pm: Bright Lights, Groove City - DJ Press Groove to the beats of DJ Press as you sip cocktails in our cavernous Sculpture Court. The legendary DJ Press will be spinning an eclectic mix of hip-hop, rock, funk, and reggae.
