Rumor Rumination

This was released by Mayor Brown yesterday:
There have been several rumors circulating about my status as Mayor of Buffalo, ranging from being considered for high-level federal or state appointments to alleged FBI probes that would cause me to consider resigning from office.
None of these rumors are true and I look forward to continuing my tenure as Mayor. In fact, I look forward to continuing to oversee the programs and initiatives that are contributing to Buffalo’s revival.
Clearly, and sadly, this is politically motivated.
According to our source, the allegations against the mayor, apparently circulated in Albany and possibly New York first and had not reached mainstream Buffalo at the time of this announcement. See this Buffalo News article.
The thought behind this release may have been to launch a premptive strike before the rumor blew in on the wind, but in outing the fact that there are rumors...there will be massive speculation. The problem with that is that speculation about the rumors will circulate until they become embedded in the minds of the mayor's detractors as fact, while being dismissed by the mayor's allies as poppy-cock.
Nothing to do but sit back and watch this one unfold...

According to Joy McDuffie, Foreclosure Prevention Specialist at the WNY Law Center, don’t believe everything you hear about foreclosures in Buffalo – they’re still a real problem. McDuffie says many think that Buffalo didn’t get hit hard by the sub prime lending market collapse, but that it just isn’t true.
“We’re really trying to help because Buffalo definitely has a foreclosure problem, but there are things that homeowners can do. We actually have a $700,000 two-y …
Medaille was founded in 1875 by the Sisters of Saint Joseph to prepare its members for teaching in diocesan schools. Later, in 1937 the institute was chartered by New York State to grant baccalaureate degrees in education; the college was renamed in honor of Father John Peter Medaille, and the rest is history.
Since its founding, Medaille has grown into a well-known, private, four-year college with their main campus located in the historic Olmsted Crescent in the heart of Buffa …
Since 1994, people have gone on the self-guided “Secrets of Allentown” tour, discovering the rich history of the area and the beauty of the architecture here in Buffalo. That tour once again returns, and though they’re willing to tell you the main attraction, to find out the rest of the homes, you’ll have to take the tour yourself.
The tour is on Sunday, September 14th and kicks off at the Clement Mansion where the Red Cross is headquartered at 786 Delaware Avenue. There, …
Maybe you read about this one last December, or maybe you took the time and looked over this one in April, and perhaps you considered attending this event back in June. Whatever your reasoning for putting it off, there’s no time like the present for Forgotten Buffalo, unless of course it’s the past.
Forgotten Buffalo Tours take participants on a journey into the history of the area, always striving to produce a unique and entertaining outing. Their success has allowed them to …

Wow, like BRO is getting all editorial lately. Okay, good for them. As for Brown and his detractors, there's a tidbit stating that many development plans were made prior to his administration. Well, yeah, and most of them languished for years. This admin is actually getting them moving and seeing them forward to reality.
It's an election year in the state level. Think about that and wait for fact rather than fiction.
At least the streets are cleaner and there are more drug busts than ever before.

Nice to see BRO adding this type of story! Politics can be positive and contribute to the Buffalo is Rising theme...as long as it is kept constructive.

"According to our source..."
You need to get better sources. The rumor was swirling around city hall since Monday.
Do Buffalo a favor and just stick to your usual nonsense.

@WNY...the operative phrase here is "main stream". But I like your new policy of posting derisive comments under your own outlet's name rather than switching to one of the several others that you typically use.
I searched your site but didn't find a story on Monday, just this on Thursday:
"This Statement was released late this afternoon, surrounding rumors that Mayor Byron Brown is being investigated and may have to step down after a local website published the rumors.
It wasn't us... and strangely enough it wasn't the usual suspect either..."
If an outlet published it, why can't you name them? Otherwise it looks like a rumor about a rumor, know what I mean?

1. Ummm, are personal and off-topic attacks ok around here as long as they're directed against a BRO competitor?
2. The whole BRO vs. WNYmedia thing is stupid enough. But BRO comes off looking even worse when critiques of their content are met with personal insults.

DUDE. i did not hit submit 3 times! this must be the buffalo news tampering again. colin. i completely disagree with you. It has nothing to do with one being more valuable then the other but content and dimension of discourse. Take for example the cherry bomb on everyones sabres sunday. Not only was bucky gleason able to convince the whole town he was glenn danzing, he sold our whole organization down the shittier like some do it yourself heart surgeon.
what makes this site so cool is the topic and discussion's. I love mayor brown because he makes me feel less guilty about George Bush.

The story was on PoliticsWNY and SpeakUp for, at least, 5 days before Brown's announcement.

uh.. not really. Lets call it a similar policy like the one you have in place that you don't link to our website, we don't link to theirs...
And if you would stop deleting all my screen names I wouldn't have to post under my real name,
If you want to talk about posting comments under your own name, lets have a discussion shall we... seeing that 80% of the comments on this site originalte from your office, id bet you won't want to talk about that will ya, chazbrown?
Funny how someone created an account specifically to bash alan and chris... Hmm!
Elenaisatool was my favorite, can you reinstate it?

I got lite up?
If anyone suggests that I am a tool for BRO, maybe they need to go lite up.
I have noting to do with either WNYmediaFAIL or BRO. I am just sick of the classless dreck coming from WNYmediaFAIL.
BuffaloPundit/BuffaloGeek/WNYmediaFAIL has even gone to the lengths of moderating my comments on their beautifully designed sites.
It is quite funny if you think about.
They accuse BRO of advertorials when they clearly post such things.
Dreck!

@ Chaz/elena: I challenge you to show me one post on our websites that was specifically posted in exchange for money. please. Id love to see it.
I am done with you fools for another week. I've have already surpassed the limit on my BRO visits for this week. Anymore this weekend and I may vomit on myself.
you can email me at admin@wnymedia.net. I do not know your email address unless your name is Newell, Barry or Elena. Oh wait, speaking of FAIL... Newell doesn't work here anymore either...nevermind...

Hey, I've been out of town a couple weeks and need to catch up? Which rumor did the mayor deny? A. The one about him taking bribe to agree to sell Fulton St. to the Senecas? B. The one about him taking bribe to make a future deal to sell Senecas the BMHA site just east of casino site? Or C. The one about him getting feelers about a Fed job but having to back off so as not to trigger an FBI background check that would have exposed either of those first two bribes?
Everything I read in BuffNews or on TV web sites only had denial and no details of the rumors. Somebody help me out here please.
