Oktoberfest At The Terminal Now On The Tour Route

Oktoberfest At The Terminal Now On The Tour Route

Story Options

Oktoberfest has been going on in Munich, Bavaria, Germany since September 20th, but it’s just coming to the Central Terminal this weekend. The Terminal is holding their own version of the festival as part of their Picnic in the Plaza VI. Get ready for beer, food, and live German entertainment that will get you on your feet. If you come in costume, you get in for free!

The Terminal’s festival is becoming so popular that this year, Forgotten Buffalo has made a tour that will stop by the festival. Forgotten Buffalo is having a “Polkas, Pints, Pasta, & Prosit” tour that celebrates Oktoberfest, Dyngus Day, St. Joseph’s, and St. Patrick’s Day, all in a single night. The tickets are $40, but if you’re looking for more than just Oktoberfest, your ticket buys you admission to the Terminal’s festival, four taverns, dinner, the tour itself, and live music before and after the tour.

If tavern-hopping isn’t your style, there will be plenty of fun and action at Oktoberfest. While getting a drink at the beer garden you’ll be shaking your hips to the German American musicians Blaskapelle. Blaskapelle will be providing the German music for the festival and the band is comprised of 20 musicians, so be ready to be blasted back to the old country. They play everything from marches to polkas, waltzes, foxtrots, tangos, Rheinlanders, and other popular dances from the German regions of Europe. The best part is, they’ll have the audience up and out of their seats to dance to "Rucki Zucki," "Schöne Maid," "Ein Prosit der Gemütllichkeit," and even "The Chicken Dance."

Oktoberfest is September 27th from 6 PM until 11 PM. Any age is welcome to attend, but you have to be 21 or older to drink. Tickets are $10 and include a drink, and there will also be food and even soft drinks for the designated drivers. You can learn more about upcoming events at the Terminal at their website. If you’re interested in Oktoberfest and want to make it a night of drinking combined with Buffalo history, you can get a ticket for the Forgotten Buffalo tour by calling 833-5211 or by e-mail. You have to be 21 or older to take part in the tour.

Thanks for the great photo and write up, Eli! This is our 4th Oktoberfest and it gets more popular each year. I started the festival after attending Oktoberfest in Munich in 2004. The massive beer tents you show in this photo reminded me of the terminal. It's a fun event!

Is the terminal going to be setup with the tables and such where you can just sit, and have beer dropped in front of you (like in Munich)? If so count me in!

can someone explain to me why every Buffalo-based event has to have a "in the" or "at the" in its title? Are they all trying to convince people that they are all extensions of Thursday in the Square?

I love the long tables in the German beer halls....if the organizers consider going that route for next year, I'd volunteer to schlep beers!

yeah the long tables are interesting for a variety of reasons. Having used them in Germany and the Czech Republic it forces people to interact more than individual tables. You can't break into social cul de sacs when everyone has to bump elbows. It almost always has lead to some fantastic conversation with total strangers.. Maybe even a a little singing to a drinking song or two. I know its not very American to partake in drinking songs and conversations with total strangers but IMO it is what makes events like this worthwhile or at least more authentic.

lol you're right manski....let me rephrase that, every event in buffalo is labeled

    EVENT_NAME + prepositional phrase + EVENT_LOCATION

guess it makes it easy for people to know where at what it is quickly.
