Movie Night at Central Terminal?

I’ve only been to the Central Terminal on two occasions--once for a tour, and then to check out the Student Celebration of Visual Arts event that took place in June. I am impressed and intrigued by efforts to reuse the Central Terminal. An idea occurred to me while watching Alfred Hitchcock’s Strangers on a Train that aired recently on WNED.
This is classic movie with key scenes that take place on a train. Though not set in Buffalo, the fact that it was released in 1951 and that the plot unfolds on a train makes me think of Buffalo’s Central Terminal. It seems to me that the Central Terminal is a fitting venue to show this masterpiece film.
Here’s the premise of the movie: Two men meet on a train. One is a tennis star and the other is a crazed obsessive man. The obsessive man suggests that they each commit a murder for the other. The crazed man wants his father killed, and offers to kill the tennis star’s wife. The tennis player does not agree to murder the man’s father, but the men leave the train with very different ideas about what was agreed to during their conversation. That’s all I’ll say about the plot in case you haven’t seen the movie.
Strangers on a Train is a fascinating movie, and I would love to watch it with a large audience at the Central Terminal. What do you think, readers, could this idea work?

The Erie County Legislature has approved an amended 2009 Erie County budget in a "surgical approach" by accepting the amendments approved last week by the Finance, Management and Budget Committee, but - much to County Executive Chris Collins' dismay - eliminating his previously proposed tax rate increase.
By holding the line on property taxes, Collins' $1.2 billion proposal was cut by about $9.5 million, while providing for essential services such as public safety, health, huma …
Ever since ArtVoice broke the news about the suspicious ousting of West Side housing activist Harvey Garrett from the board of West Side Neighborhood Housing Services, everyone has been wondering: What will happen next? Will this stick? Will there be some kind of investigation? When will the other shoe drop?
One dropped yesterday. In a letter to board Chairman Ramon Morales, Assemblyman Sam Hoyt announced his intention to pull his legislative initiative funding from West Side …
Four games in 6 nights certainly marks a rough patch in a schedule, and the Buffalo Sabres showed what kind of toll it can take by losing to the Nashville Predators 2-0 on home ice.
To be fair, both teams played an uninspired game from start to finish, which makes sense when you consider that the Predators played 3 games in 5 nights. There were few exciting scoring chances on either side of the ice and the game's pace was both stilted and broken. It was likely due to the coache …
From Hoss: "Is Kabob and Curry opening at the old Mondo location on Elmwood, or Main? I haven't been to their primary eatery on Transit, but I hear they serve the best Indian food around."
Kabab and Curry will open in about two weeks at the former Mondo Video location... approximately mid-December. I understand that it will be more of a take-out operation than the existing restaurant located on Transit Road. It appears as if the Transit eatery attracts a lot of university student …

Todd, we had the premier of the movie that was filmed at the terminal, "Prison of the Psychotic Damned" two years ago. It was a successful event and movies there are great!
The problem is that we'd have to charge admission to cover the costs of insurance and toilet/chair/project & screen rentals. I'm not sure that people would pay admission for an old movie.

I would pay a couple $ to watch an old classic in an old classic building such as the terminal.
I think a murder/mystery in this setting would be fun. Bring your own chairs and a bottle of wine :)

i think that people would be more willing to pay the money if it was going to charity and im sure that you could get companies to rent the chairs and toilets as sponsorship, not sure if you could get insurance the same way but you never know. I think a lot of people are interested enough in the Central Terminal to pay a few dollars to go see a movie there regardless of it being a classic.

Central Terminal would be a great setting for some classic films! If you showed 2 full-length films and some shorts, it could really be an event that people would pay for. The Screening Room has done this on occasion with some success, but using the Central Terminal for the venue would generate even more interest.
I bet some sponsorship and $10 tickets would cover the costs without much of a problem.

Great idea. Have Flying Bison sell beer and popcorn, I'd pay $10 to get in...

If you get an organization to sponsor it, they, can probably add the event to their existing insurance, just for the day, at no extra cost.

I love the idea! The Thruway Cinemas have $2.00 movies and they seem to cover their expenses with that.
