Running with the Chickens


The starting line is Irish Times Restaurant (located directly across from Dunn Tire Park). That’s where participants line-up (for beers) before the race. Then the course winds all the way around the baseball stadium where runners cross a finish line and end up in chicken wing heaven. "The same guy wins the race every year," Drew told me. "Many people show up in costumes - they're just looking to have a good time. 'Runners' can register the day of the race (Saturday, August 30th)... it's one lap around the stadium. We've been hosting the festival for seven years - the .5K race has been going on for four years."
The National Buffalo Wing Festival takes place on August 30th and 31st.

Last year, around 4,000 people packed in the area between Michigan Ave. and Elm St. by 145 Broadway St. in downtown Buffalo for the Queen City Jazz Festival. This year, president of The Colored Musicians Club (CMC) of Buffalo, George Scott, says “The crowds have been getting bigger and bigger as it goes on.”
