Buffalo Lets Pennington Roam

The stage was set; it was our home opener against a division rival. The 12th man was out in full force and we started off strong, but in the end could not finish. It sounds like a recap of a Bills game from last year but unfortunately that isnit the case. We had everything going for us, and then we handed the game away to the Jets in our house.

If one were to look at stats it would be hard to imagine a loss for the Bills. We dominated in most aspects of the game. J.P. had a career day (minus the turnovers) and Willis had an amazing game as he usually does against the Jets. However, one key block he missed might have prevented a turnover/touchdown. A continuing problem for the Bills is that they canit finish a game. Nothing was more apparent today as we went up 7-0 on our first possession and couldnit keep the momentum going.

Another key of the game was when we went for it on 4th down. Just as the Patriots did to us in week one, the Jets took over after stopping us and marched down the field for a touchdown. Although I like the gutsy calls by coach Jauron we need to convert those situations, and if we donit our defensive needs to respond.

With the great play from our defense last week, I expected big things in our home opener. We failed miserably, letting Chad Pennington roam freely in the pocket all day. We managed only one sack, and lost the turnover battle.

So the question is can we bounce back next week with the Vikings coming to town? After that we travel to Chicago to face the currently undefeated Bears. Does Jauron have what it takes to rally this team back from a bad loss at home? Will J.P. continue to play well but not well enough? Most importantly will we play four solid quarters of football?

This team will continue to lose as long as the defense fails to stop teams on crucial third downs. On the flip side, the offense is one of the worst in the league when it comes to converting third downs.

The Buffalo Bills have to one of the weaker teams in the brains department. When it comes down to the crucial parts in the game, they continue to fail time and time again. I am really starting to wonder of Losman has what it takes to lead this team and come up with the big play when called upon.

These guys had a W served to them on a silver platter and still could not figure out a way to get it done. Good teams find a way to win and bad teams find a way to lose - it's the name of the game.

This is one of the attributes of the Donohoe built teams, they aren't mentally tough. They don't stop teams when needed, and don't convert when needed. It will take a couple years to shake the donohoe off them. Though they still should have run more.

But this season is going to be filled with this type of stuff.
