Book Club In A Bag

Now they won’t fight over the library’s copy, because the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library will give you ten copies of the book. They do a program called “Book Club In A Bag.” With a wide selection of books available and more being added all the time, it’s the best and easiest way to start a book club, or even if you already run one/take part in one, you may want to check into it.
You get a kit that contains ten copies of the selected book, a large print edition if it’s available, an audio book if it’s available, a reading guide and an information/contents sheet. The library does the legwork and the book club gets the benefits, including all the information needed for a rousing discussion.
You get to have the bag for six weeks and it can be returned to any location, but renewals are not allowed. One library card can have two bags out at any time, but the bags are on e a first come, first serve basis. The library likes people to pick three book titles, just incase their first choice isn’t available at the time.
The library will call or e-mail you within two business days to let you know what’s going on and after that, you’ll have the book bag and kit in a week or less. Sometimes it can take a little time for the bag to be moved to the library you’re picking it up for, which accounts for the up to a week delay after your reservation is confirmed.
You can reserve a kit here and you can view the list of available books here. This program is an exciting way to be in a book club that everyone can afford and enjoy. For more information, you can call the library at 858-8900, Monday through Saturday, 9 AM till 5 PM.

Few private citizens can claim awareness of the growing pet population like Robin Johnson can. Johnson owns and operates Vilardo Printing at 326 Connecticut Street and since she took over the business in 2001, she has started rescuing stray and abandoned cats. For Johnson, it started out as one cat, but then it became two, then four, and well, as Johnson puts it, “you know how it goes. There were always cats around the city and when you take in one cat, you always have a gazilli …
Work started on returning two-way traffic to Main Street's 700 block on Monday. Yesterday, Avalon Development made a strategic purchase on the same block where it has been working since 2001. The development company headed by Chris Jacobs acquired 715 Main Street at the northeast corner of Tupper. The highly-visible building contains 6,110 sq.ft. of space with coveted rear parking along Washington Street. Plans for the building are not known.
If you're into science and you're looking to support the Museum of Science, then you don't want to miss this awesome event. Actually, the Museum of Science has been hosting a series of unique gatherings in recent years, but it is the Museum's Attic that actually gets you into places that not many people will ever get the chance to see. The museum's collection is so vast, that at any given time there is a fraction of items showing to the public. Even when exhibits rotate, that only …
Now we're talking... this Sunday (2pm-5pm), 250 incoming Medaille freshman are going to be heading down to the Commercial Slip. It's a joint effort between Medaille College and the Buffalo Tours program. Hopefully this trip will be just one of the many waterfront excursions that these students take during their time spent at the college. Not only will the students learn about the waterfront and the surrounding architecture, they will also be shown where they can catch the Metro Ra …

What a great idea! After the crazy busy summer I'd love to get a pack--we've been talking of getting our book club (*ahem* slash wine club) going again when everyone's schedules are a little more accommodating.
Hopefully the list of available books will grow with the popularity of the program; although there's a nice list to start with we've already read a bunch of them. I highly recommend The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night, The Handmaid's Tale, The Red Tent and of course The Kite Runner. And apparently any other book that begins with "The" in its title ;)

LightoftheMoon, another good book is Water for Elephants. I just finished reading it and put it one my favorite list right behind The Kite Runner.
