Avenue Q at Shea's

Is Avenue Q appropriate for children?
Adults love AVENUE Q, but they seem a little, er, fuzzy on whether it's appropriate for kids. We'll try to clear that up. AVENUE Q is great for teenagers because it's about real life. It may not be appropriate for young children because AVENUE Q addresses issues like sex, drinking, and surfing the web for porn. It's hard to say what exact age is right to see AVENUE Q - parents should use their discretion based on the maturity level of their children. But we promise you this - if you DO bring your teenagers to AVENUE Q, they'll think you're really cool.
For those of you who may have chafed at the sweetness of Mr. Rodgers and felt that Oscar was most in touch with the real world, albeit on the negative side only, it may be refreshing to hear some creatures tell it a little more like it really is.
Though there are elements that are reminiscent of children's programming, the producers of Avenue Q are very adamant about denying parallels with one show in particular that they are not affiliated with, but whom the puppets look so much like that announcing the disclaimer becomes necessary. So, looks like...but is not.
Starting tonight, Avenue Q is only playing until May 4, so if you'd like to be amused by puppets and people alike in a funny and risque way, you'd better get your tickets soon.

The Theatre of Youth’s (TOY) 37th Season is starting out with an adaptation from a book that nearly everyone read as a child: The Boxcar Children. Barbara Field modified the work by Gertrude Chandler Warner for the stage into a show that is recommended for ages 7 and up. It will chronicle the adventures of the four clever runaway siblings as they live in an abandoned boxcar.
This play will be perfect to bring your children to. The familiar story will come alive on stage, creati …
Anybody looking for a relaxing night out needs look no further than UB's Allen Hall. WBFO's free weekly concert series continues tonight with a performance by Ellen West and Tracy Morrow and the Magi Chippie.
Ellen West is also known as Michele Buono, singer and guitarist for The Missing Planes, a more upbeat indie band. Buono had a few songs she wrote that didn't quite fit the tone of the band and she plays them out under the moniker “Ellen West,” a reference to a song by …
Leave it to Nietzsches to back up the indie bands!

I was at the Viking Restaurant in the Blackrock section of town when the owner says, "Hey, I have this CD of a kid of one of my customers. Would you like to take a listen?"
"Suuuure," I cringed. "Whose kid is it?" He mentions the name, and to my extra delight (sarcasm), I happen to know the guy. Great, I say to myself.
But I listened, and the kid was more than all right; he was just terrific (whew). I took the CD to some friends so they could listen—Robbie Konikoff at …

Only until May 4th!? So that means we're going to be losing the giant billboard of a puppet's cleavage shortly?
If anyone hasn't seen it, look to the left while driving along the 33 West (around Best. St.)- I didn't realize it was a puppet at first!
