Art with Artists

Art with Artists classes are designed for children ages four through sixteen, and taught by local artists and art educators. The themes of the fall sessions are inspired by the exhibition, The Wall: Reshaping Chinese Contemporary Art. Registration is required and enrollment is limited. Detailed class listings below:
Painting the Wall Ages 4 through Kindergarten Saturdays, October 15 November 19 10-11 A.M. $50 Members / $65 non-members Instructor: Mrs. Lesher Chan Assistant: Elizabeth Wozniak
Let your child discover the wonders of the East. After touring the Gallery, students will return to the classroom to participate in related art activites, including the traditional art of sand paper art. Traditional Arts and Little Hands Grades 1 and 2 Saturdays, October 15 November 19 10-11 A.M. $50 Members / $65 non-members Instructor: Mr. Hsiu Chen Assistant: Dr. Ing-Chyong Chen-Rawson
Students will tour the Gallery to discover its hidden treasures, and create masterpieces of their own using traditional Chinese art forms, such as scratch art paper.
Classroom Zen Grades 3 through 5 Saturdays, October 15 November 19 11:30 A.M.-1 P.M. $65 Members / $80 non-members Instructor: Manya Fabiniak
This unique course focuses on the harmony of creative expression and meditative awareness. Using sumi ink painting, music, and meditation, students will unlock their creativity and hidden talents. After a group breathing exercise, the class will explore the Gallery s collection and special exhibition, and then return to the classroom to begin their own artistic creations. Following a group meditation exercise, young artists will tour the Gallery and learn to interpret the works of contemporary Chinese artists. The traditional technique of silk painting will help students unlock their own creative vision and artistic passion.

According to Miguel Santos, one of the founders of the Puerto Rican Day Parade of WNY, starting the parade six years ago was a way of “recognizing that Buffalo’s Latino population continues to grow and we decided that it would be a great way to recognize this segment of the population.” Inspired by the National Puerto Rican Day Parade in NYC, Santos, who is a local activist in the Latino community, got a call from Jose Rodriguez, and the rest is history.
