25 years and RUNNING in Buffalo

If you are out and about tonight anywhere near Delaware Park, the answer to the question "What is going on?" is "The 25th annual JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge."
Last year over 10,000 runners from over 300 companies competed in the the 3.5-mile race. (Over 60% of the entrants last year were women.)
The event was founded with a single race in New York's Central Park in 1977. When Buffalo was added in 1981, it became the third participant. Now 18 events are held in 15 cities around the world. Buffalo's is among the largest. The event will also benefit two local charitable organizations, with a minimum of $2.50 per participant to be donated to the Buffalo Zoo and Cornerstone Manor [Buffalo City Mission's shelter for women and children]. - from jpmorganchasecc.com
Tonight, June 9, 2005, the race starts at 6:45. And while race registration has closed, this is considered "the corporate social event of the season" and "Western New York's largest road race" so it is worth going to cheer on the runners and run into friends at over 200 company tents scattered about Delaware Park.
For race questions, contact race coordinators Dan and Alice Loncto at 716-828-4036 or mailto:buffalo@jpmorganchasecc.com.

Some of you may have heard about SAFTEA-LU and may recall the story that made it famous. The legislation is up for reauthorization in 2009 and funds projects that are designed to improve and maintain the transportation infrastructure of the nation.
Congressman Higgins knows about this piece of legislation and is …
It's not too late for the Department of Transportation (DOT) to do the right thing when it comes to the roadways along the Outer Harbor. This morning, Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper held a press conference to show reporters what a terrible mistake our city is about to make. From where we were standing we could almost see Lake Erie... had the stretch of dirt in the background been removed, the waterfront would be connected once again. Instead, the DOT is about to build a partially ele …
