Profile for Buffalopundit
- Biography
- I grew up in downstate New York and attended University in Boston, MA and law school thereafter. Lived in Boston and ran a private law practice from 1994 until 2001. Married since 1995 to my wife, who is originally from WNY. We came out to the area to visit her family at least once a year, and after the birth of our first daughter we toyed with the idea of moving here for the more laid-back lifestyle, friendly people and low housing prices. We took the plunge in summer 2001 and won't move away voluntarily. I am a litigation attorney working downtown and am President of a local non-partisan civic issues-oriented group, the WNY Coalition for Progress, and blog regularly at Buffalopundit.wnymedia.net Also, I collect one-stars to comments like M&Ms, so keep 'em coming.

City Dweller (at Heart)
If you own and live in your home for a period of two years within the five years preceding its sale, you can exclude up to $250,000 in gain. So I don't understand the bit about "she doesn't want to incur capital gains taxes from the eventual sale …

Warren Buffett and The Buffalo News - What's Next?
And as for the critiques of WNYMedia - we're not perfect either. Turns out we didn't need an office on Elmwood because everything we do is easily done from home. In the end, though, we do remain a portal offering local news and opinion from avera…

Warren Buffett and The Buffalo News - What's Next?
The Buffalo News doesn't need a path to relevancy. Its relevance is automatic. It's the only paper in town, as you point out, and it's accessible to anyone with 50 cents, as opposed to internet sites and blogs, which have the attention of 2% of t…

First Glimpse of the Beach
Looks ok, but here's the real question - what, if anything, would it take to get swimming to be permitted there sometime in the future? I know pollution was one issue, but so was "active shipping lane", if I remember correctly.
