buffalorising

If you are out and about tonight anywhere near Delaware Park, the answer to the question "What is going on?" is "The 25th annual JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge."

Last year over 10,000 runners from over 300 companies competed in the the 3.5-mile race. (Over 60% of the entrants last year were women.) The event was founded with a single race in New York's Central Park in 1977. When Buffalo was added in 1981, it became the third participant. Now 18 events are held in 15 cities around the world. Buffalo's is among the largest. The event will also benefit two local charitab…

I hadn't until this evening. And boy, when I heard them, I heard them. I chased these girls and guys down Elmwood for 16 city blocks to catch up with them. Bells a blarin', voices a shoutin', smiles a grinnin'. They were having a grand old time. When I finally caught up to them they informed me that they were the Buffalo Bike Posse. Cool. These bikers leave from Amherst and head into the city every Wednesday evening. They don bright yellow t-shirts with an image of a banana eating a banana on them. It was really great to see this taking place, just footsteps from …

Allen Street Hardware Cafe is celebrating it's one year anniversary. There will be no fanfare, no drink specials, and from what I understand, no big party. So why do I even mention it? Because despite what a lot of folks said, this place has turned into one of the 'funkiest' little neighborhood bars/eateries in the city. I remember hearing people say that they were crazy for opening an establishment on a section of Allen Street that no one would support. They said that people wouldn't go there to eat grilled panini sandwiches and drink beers the likes of Flying Bison. You can't just o…

This is going to be a great weekend for all you music lovers out there! Entering its 3rd year in 2005, the Music is Art Festival is a free two day festival on the grounds of Chameleonwest Studios in Allentown featuring over 60 local musical acts and dozens of performance artists, dancers and local artists and art cooperatives. Last year's festival featured performances by top local acts including Klear, Last Conservative, and The Goo Goo Dolls as well as dozens of local artists showing their work, live creations of murals, photography exhibits, multimedia rooms, magicians, fire dancers and more. I was going to post the scheduleOe but after taking one look at the amount of talent that will be there, there was just no way to fit it all in this post. Sooo, here is the list! Make sure that you check out the

This is one of several Buffalo Honey stories from the latest issue of Buffalo Rising Magazine--stories of women who have moved to Buffalo to be with their significant other.

Sionen and Roy Laciura have been together for thirteen years. Born in London, Sionen's family relocated to Sydney, Australia when she was a young child. In the early 1990's, Roy was Down Under working in the film industry. Sionen met Roy while selling lights to him and eventaully followed him back to the states. Sionen's first visit was during a glorious June of sunny skies and flowers in bloom. Roy warned her that Buffalo was not always so rosy. Her second visit was during a December full of holiday cheer, windows looking in…

June brings out some of the best that Buffalo has to offer. In the preserved setting of historic Allentown, artists, patrons, and spectators gather from all across North America to converge on, and share in the Allentown Village Society's presentation of the Allentown Art Festival. Initially started in 1957 as a grassroots campaign for local artists to share and exhibit their crafts, the Allentown Art Fest…

Buffalo Pride

The first Gay Pride march was on June 28, 1970 to commemorate the Stonewall Rebellion in New York a year earlier--a rebellion resulting from police harassment of the gay community. The Stonewall Rebellion was like a gay Watts, a rallying point which helped end the clandestine gay movement of the 50s and 60s and brought about a much more voc…
