25 years and RUNNING in Buffalo

If you are out and about tonight anywhere near Delaware Park, the answer to the question "What is going on?" is "The 25th annual JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge."
Last year over 10,000 runners from over 300 companies competed in the the 3.5-mile race. (Over 60% of the entrants last year were women.) The event was founded with a single race in New York's Central Park in 1977. When Buffalo was added in 1981, it became the third participant. Now 18 events are held in 15 cities around the world. I hadn't until this evening. And boy, when I heard them, I heard them. I chased these girls and guys down Elmwood for 16 city blocks to catch up with them. Bells a blarin', voices a shoutin', smiles a grinnin'. They were having a grand old time. When I finally caught up to them they informed me that they were the Buffalo Bike Posse. Cool. These bikers leave from Amherst and head into the city every Wednesday evening. They don bright yellow t-shirts with an image of a banana eating a banana on them. Allen Street Hardware Cafe is celebrating it's one year anniversary. There will be no fanfare, no drink specials, and from what I understand, no big party. So why do I even mention it? Because despite what a lot of folks said, this place has turned into one of the 'funkiest' little neighborhood bars/eateries in the city. This is going to be a great weekend for all you music lovers out there! Entering its 3rd year in 2005, the Music is Art Festival is a free two day festival on the grounds of Chameleonwest Studios in Allentown featuring over 60 local musical acts and dozens of performance artists, dancers and local artists and art cooperatives. Last year's festival featured performances by top local acts including Klear, Last Conservative, and The Goo Goo Dolls as well as dozens of local artists showing their work, live creations of murals, photography exhibits, multimedia rooms, magicians, fire dancers and more.
