As you walk toward the entrance of the Century Grill, three limestone columns immediately catch your eye. These three giants and the inscription "Ancient Landmarks"adorn the restaurant's facade announcing the building's former duty as a Masonic temple. You will not need to pass through a temple to your dining destination, yet you will immediately feel connected to an ambiance reflecting Buffalo's rich history.
The Century Grill's proprietors are Otis and Mary Beth Bartlett of Allentown. Otis's ten years experience in the restaurant business and Mary Beth's expertise in the kitchen make them a perfect culinary pair. They'll celebrate the Century Grill's second anniversary on May 13, 2005. The proximity of the Hyatt Regency and the Buffalo Convention Center promise plenty of business. Lunches during the week are always busy, and the Century Grill's reputation for serving orders promptly is well known.

I never imagined that we'd be covering a laundromat. Then again, I never could have imagined one as spectacular as the new Lake Effect Laundromat on Main Street. The idea for this luxury launderette has been brewing with owner Matt O'Connor for years. From ambiance, amenities, and state-of-the-art technology, he has thought of every detail and puts a fresh spin on the chore of laundry by creating a relaxing atmosphere with comforts of home.

I grew up in Buffalo and, aside from the time I spent in the service of Uncle Sam as a draftee, I've lived here my whole life. It has occurred to me, as I am sure it has to many of you, that maybe I should move someplace else like California or some other warmer more vibrant spot. For me, the timing never seemed right and "suddenly" I was here to stay.
Now, for a lot of the reasons, (many of which you will find in this blog site) it's more than just ok, it's really a great choice. To be honest, I'm a little shocked by how pleased I am with this realization, so I decided to try to figure out why I am so comfort…

It seems that City Hall escaped the bolt of lightning that you see in the photo above. The Richardson Complex was not as fortunate. I don't have the heart to cover the later story. Unforntunately lightning can be as destructive as it can be beautiful. As a vast number of Buffalonians attended a myriad of events downtown last evening, one of those attendees, Brian Maher, stuck around for what turned out to be the best visual show of the night. Now I don't think that Brian is a regular storm chaser, but we are sure glad that he chased down this fantastic photo of city hall in Mother …

As I was blading around the city this evening (after Thursday at the Square), I decided to roll up to the steps of City Hall. While sitting on the steps, I noticed another rollerblader racing around the circle. Hey it's always nice to see a fellow blader out for some fresh air. As he approached I noticed that he was wearing an Explore the Elmwood/Allentown t-shirt. For those of you that might not know, that was the original name of Buffalo Rising Magazine. Yes, we started off as E/A. And this rollerblader was wearing one of our original old-school t-shirts. What were the odds? It's not like we mass marketed these shirts. So I flagged him down and we started shooting the breeze. I really didn't want to interfere with his blade... so I …

It was a hot one! Congrats to everyone that not only completed the Corporate Challenge, but just showed up in the heat. (If figmo hadnit called requesting some shots from the finish line, I might have opted to stay in my cool basement doing laundry.)
But I am so glad that we walked over to Delaware Park to get right into the mix of runners and supporters under an array of colorful (and much needed) tents. It was great to see the transformation of the park near the zoo. The spirit of the crowd was pumped and happy, despite the heat. Everyone was more than willing to share cold beverages. Ma…

You haven't seen anything like it.
On Elmwood between Auburn and Lafayette and behind a sparkling new facade is the three part business Delish! There's a handsome retail pastry shop with restaurant-quality desserts, the latest cookbooks and a small selection of high-end gourmet kitchen wares. A glass wall behind the shop shows off a bustling cooking school kitchen with marble-topped work tables. Fine woodwork of the original Victorian era building have been carefully restored and combined with sleek stainless steel appliances and new cabinetry in the Delish Cooking School Kitchen. The t…

...1000 Thank Yous times 10. That's what I heard as 10,000 Corporate Challenge runners rounded Gates Circle in near-record breaking heat--a weary but genuine and constant chorus of 'Thank yous' directed toward the firefighters spraying with their hoses. Just another reason that it's great to live in the City of Good Neighbors.

It's not just the Lexington Coop Project that's showing significant signs of progress. This year Hallwalls will relocate to the restored former church at the corner of Delaware and Tupper, as a tenant of Righteous Babe Records.
Edmund Cardoni, Hallwalls Executive Director writes of the soon to be finished space:
Besides our own leased spacesogallery, dual-purpose screening/small performance space, offices, storageoHallwalls will also benefit from access to certain shared spaces and facilities, most notably the sanctuary performance space (capacity 1,200), with its box office, green room, and dressing rooms. Other common spaces will include the new stair tower and entrance lobby, …
