Chippewa For Sale?

West Coast Perspective

Is the Chippewa boom fading or is it undergoing a cyclical turn-over in ownership? Four Chippewa area bar businesses are currently for sale (Tantra, Utopia, Jade and Area 42) and two others have either been sold or have been taken off the market. The Chippewa strip, the long-running drinking destination for the younger crowd, is far from fizzling out, but the number of bars catering to the same student and twenty-something clientele may have grown too large. New ownership and investment is great, but it may be an ideal time for reinvention and some diversity in Chippewa's offerings.

This is from a comment left on a CITY Channel Post about Connecticut Street. I thought it deserved it's own post.

From Mark Miremont, a UCLA Masters Film Student grad / film maker who has recenty moved here from LA on why he chose to move his life and career to Buffalo:

The rebirth of a neighborhood business district:

After decades of decline Connecticut Street is coming back. With significant reductions in crime & blight and millions of dollars in new private investment, Connecticut Street is attracting new businesses, homeowners, and praise.

Yes, I said millions in private investment.

Well I don't think that you could have dreamt a better scenario for this Bills game. Buffalo came out with a victory and Losman is now the starting QB whether Mularkey wants to admit it or not. Hopefully everyone is on the same page and realizes that the best thing for this team right now and for the future is to have JP Losman on the field.

There could have been a lot of things to complain about today if the Bills had not come out victorious. Coaching continues to be sketchy at best and the offensive line continues to struggle. Why is Mularkey admitting that he made a mistake by starting Mike Williams at Left Guard AFTER the game? Does he not get paid to understand when someone is and is not ready? I am still having a hard time figuring out why he insists o…

The Erie County Legislature has proposed cutting another $450,000 in bed tax funding from convention and tourism services for 2006. This is on top of the $1.5 million in bed tax cuts that were made to the Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau budget in 2005.

By way of background, the bed tax is collected each time someone checks into an Erie County hotel and is self-imposed by county hotels for the purpose of promoting tourism and bringing more visitors to Buffalo and Erie County. The bed tax is not borne by local residents. It's collected from the nearly four million visitors who stay in our hotels each year. These same visitors eat in our restaurants, shop in our stores and go to our attractions, leaving be…

As many of you know the Adidas Delaware Y Turkey Trot is the oldest continuously run road race in the country. Since it's been around so long, the YMCA (Delaware) is looking for anyone who has won the race in the past, or has run at least 25 Turkey Trots, they don't have to be in successive years. Run Time Services has been timing the race for 24 years, any records beyond what they have on their computers are sketchy at best.

If you fit either of the above categories please contact the Y and let them know. Recently Run Time Services compiled a great list of their data for this race. It lists every runner, the…

If you checked out BRO's Art Channel, then you know what went down at Griffis Studios last night. One of the things that made the Flash event such a good time was the 'design your own sculpture' feature that was incorporated into the evening. Seriously, all you had to do was draw an outline of the sculpture that you wanted the studio to fabricate, and viol…
