It's not very often that an office tenant decides to become an owner and landlord. But that scenario has played out nicely for those of us rooting on downtown's revival. The Carmina & Wood architecture firm purchased the six-story former McDonald's Townehouse building at 487 Main, corner of Mohawk, in 2004. After a top-to-bottom renovation, the firm now occupies the top two floors of the 83-year old building.
At only 15,000 sq.ft, the small size of the building likely discouraged traditional office or residential developers and the structure sat vacant for several years. But where others saw hurdles, Carmina & Wood saw opportunity. They were able to profile their talent in a building of their own and save a historic building on the Main Street pedestrian mall.
The remaining loft-style office space in their building is on the market for lease. Floors are approximately 2,400 sq.ft., ideal for small firms that desire the status of occupying their own floor. The first floor is also available for retail or restaurant use. Hastings Cohn is the leasing agent: 886-3325.
