Great job! I like to think of the whole month of April as Earth Month, focusing on minimizing the use of vehicles with only one person in them and supporting organic farming (which lessens the amount of pesticides that go into our drinking water).
Just heard this morning that Barack Obama wants to make Al Gore a strong figure in his administration. Gore stood up for the environment in a way that no one else could or would.

people wonder how I could afford to go travel as much as i did as a college student.. I always told them it was because I didn't and continue to not own a car. next time you are strapped for cash and struggling to pay that gas bill, think about the real costs of your driving habits.

its a neat little feature. . .
that said, i wish that that the NFTA, GBNRTC, the CRTC would promote the idea of one car households. public transportation is great. but lets face it, it is impractical to go completely carless. most families need a car to get food and shop in the malls.
but think of the money a family could save by eliminating an autos. insurance and maintenance on a car far exceed the price for gas. lets not forget car payments. thats where the value of public transit really shows itself. that total could easily total $400 or more a month. thats almost $5000 a year!
There are also other reasons to support public transit besides saving you money on gas or the environment. Think of the stress or productive time you can have on the bus, or maybe even a morning / afternoon nap. It might take a little extra time (hopefully not too much) but it is time to read, play games, or work vs, time getting frustrated and yelling at other drivers.
I love the time to read magazines or catch a nap after work. It gives me time to unwind after a long day. Or someday if I am feeling a little more ambitious I can pull out the PDA and revise emails or documents before I get into the office. Just trying to let people know about the other benefits of public transit that they might not have thought about.
havent driven my car since the new year began. Sure i found other ways to blow the 30$/wk that would be going for gas, but what i'm really impressed by is the fact that i havent felt inconvenienced. who knew!
