Wow ! You can't deny the man has passion for his city and for his own right to make money.
Wow ! You can't deny the man has passion for his city and for his own right to make money.
He's right the city is backwards, and this casino will only back us further...this business is not designed to help the city or buffaloians, it is designed to deepen the Seneca's pockets!!! Carl may be upset, I respect him but disagree...He has money invested thats why his pissed...the people of Buffalo need to SAVE all the money they got...not lose it to a addicting gambling habit...this will only hurt the region and make gambling presence even stronger than it is...bringing down more people, businesses and increasing crime!! This ain't rocket science...GREED is in the hearts of many leaders in this deal...it's a damn shame
don't agree with paladino on a number of things but i think he nails the casino issue dead on even if its due to self-interest...he's pretty much right about everything he said. and woulnd't that be typical buffalo if that blue tool shed ends up being the PERMANENT facility. oh boy!
Love him or hate him, the man truly hits the mark on his comments!
…and we all know, that big, blue, industrial shell is going to be the permanent casino.
I guess my only question is this: if its not in the Seneca's self-interest to build a stand-alone casino in downtown Buffalo, (which Paladino said) i.e. they won't build anything of significance...why wouldn't the City attempt to impose restrictions/regulations on the casino vis a vis the sale of Fulton St.?
Can someone interpret this incoherent, rambling rant? To Paladino, everyone is incompetent and corrupt, except him of course.
Ugh. Buffalo Rising do your damn city a favor and educate people on this very important subject matter. This is self-interest at its finest. Try digging a little deeper. At least find a counter-point. Tom Golisano? He'd probably do it, responsible for the anti-casino ads. Did Carl fail to mention that the casino behind him use to be his property?
My favorite parts? When he said:
1) The real reason I didn't want the casino in Cheektowaga is because I own one of those hotels on Genesee Street that would be effected and 2) The real reason I wanted the casino in Buffalo was so that a) I could sell them land, and b) My properties across the street will become more valuable.
Oh yeah, he didn't say that - he was just fielding softballs. And thinking it under his breath.
Buffalo Rising - Mark Goldman would be another good candidate, among many, to discuss this. Mark has a very informative & enlightening chapter on the Buffalo casino subject in his recent book "City on the Edge". The book is fantastic, a must read for those who love this city. The chapter on this subject matter is important.
Why oh why does Buffalo Rising keep giving this discredited, demolitionist gasbag such a prominent platform?
I'm confused.... He says that we need to allow th casino to get the full benefit, but then turns around and says we won't get any benefit from it because it won't be a stand alone casino.
Which is it?
Even tho I trashed him in part one of his interview a few days ago and in general I dont like or trust the guy - I do agree with what he says for most of this interview.. other than the last 4 minutes or so. The Buffalo Casino is gonna be down in the cobblestone district / first ward area right? I seen the sign on the fence when I was down there for the Sabres stuff going on. Even thought its kinda messed up right now, I think any type of investment in the area will help. They are doing those Elk St terminal condo in the area and its alright part of town.
Im against prohibitions (all kinds) in general because of the exact reasons Paladino mentions. If people gamble they are gonna gamble .... it doesnt matter where it is... they'll drive to Buffalo or they'll drive to Ft. Erie/Niagara Falls CA (they already have international traffic, we dont) its not gonna create an epidemic. I dont really buy into the whole 'casinos bring crime' aspect. People that think that must live in mob-movie inspired fantasy world. I do think gambling is bad and can hurt local but in this case its going right back into the economy, whether through the jobs or through the senecas (the senecas are ALSO WNY'ers) At least a lot of money is getting spent to build a large structure in that area.. at least I hope they build a Seneca-Niagara/Turning Stone style casino in that place.
Buffalo Rising:
Sam Hoyt would be another good candidate to discuss gambling in the city of Buffalo as a "counter point" to this.
A member of Citizens Against Casio Gambling would be another, such as Joel Rose.
Bruce Jackson, a writer for Art Voice would be another.
Please do your city a favor and dig a little deeper on this very important issue. I have little doubt the people mentioned above would like to contribute. There is still a lot of misinformation out there on gambling in downtown Buffalo.
thanks Buffalo rising for letting carl paladino speak. Tho Im not a fan.. he has some major points. Everyone should see this. Seeing as though our local paper and media is crap.
QUINNY, WHAT THE HELL HAS SAM HOYT DONE? WHY INTERVIEW HIM? HE IS YOUR TYPICAL MOUTH FALPPING POLITICIAN...TALKS A BIG GAME AND DOES NOTHING...PS WHERE ARE THE MICROPARKS? MICROPARK JAY AND SAM HOYT LOBBIED FOR ALL THIS MONEY...AND? WHERE'D THE 650K GO?
Sam Hoyt "opposes the establishment of a casino in downtown Buffalo, as unlikely to produce a net economic benefit for the city or region". He's involved with a a lot of citizens opposed to this issue and would make for an excellent candidate, among many, to discuss this vey important issue. http://urbandesignproject.ap.buffalo.edu/pub/pdf/fulltext_casino.pdf
This "man" makes me sick enough to puke.
ANY time this person opens his mouth, it involves putting money into HIS POCKETS. And that's all; nothing more. Brain cells not involved.
I just think we're selling ourselves short on this one.....if there was an ounce of brains in our state capital they would have made gambling legal in nys and opened casino development up to PRIVATE DEVELOPERS.... private developers that specialize in this type of development, pay taxes, create jobs, and pay stipends to the local municpalities. And the best part about it is that their casinos don't have red feathers at top!!! I'm not for casino gambling... but I'm sick of palladino and his back door b*llshit... he's a vulture and I'm not a supporter of the senecas and the loads of bureaucratic crap either!!!
