I remember the first couple of years, when the Norfolk Southern sent a beautiful steam locomotive and train for excursions around the Belt Line and also up to Lewiston. Hearing the steam whistle hooting all around Buffalo, for the whole weekend, was fantastic. Every ride was sold out, as I recall.
N-S has withdrawn their two historic engines from excursion service, after deciding that profit was more important than good will.
BY THE WAY - There will be a great CANADA DAY display of fireworks tomorrow, in Fort Erie. Broderick and LaSalle Parks are good places to view, if you don't want to cross the bridge.
