But it's for sale dirt-cheap. It's also located in a neighborhood that is experiencing some very positive revitalization efforts. This house, located at 513 Massachusetts Avenue, is a HUD house currently selling for $24,000. There are three catches. One is that the house needs work, two is that the buyer must live in the house, and three is the deal is only good until Saturday. After (or on) Saturday the property opens to all bidders... and doubles in price. The house is a double with a carriage house in back.

Why do we think this house is a good deal? Well, it sits in the neighborhood that Left Bank and Roseland restaurants occupy. There are a series of surrounding properties that are currently being spruced up. It's a block from Richmond Avenue. Essex Street Pub is around the corner, as is the Big Orbit Gallery and Donna Sturges Studio. The block is on the Buffalo Garden Walk. The house across the street is being reno…

We went to visit Jane Stevenson, one of our favorite furniture designers (more on her and her amazing work coming soon) and she took us on a tour of her new studio. Not only were we taken with the space, but the building itis in is kinda badass.

Owned by Chris Jacobs (lawyer, real estate developer, school board member, philanthropist) 567 Exchange Street is evolving as an idea as well as a property. It is iin a broad sense a creative community. All our tenants at this point tend to fit that bill.i

This weekend is the Elmwood Avenue Festival of the Arts, an event that helps to promote the arts, as well as the City of Buffalo as a whole. One of the unique features of this festival is the committeeis policy to include a section of the event that is dedicated to Buffalois non-profits. Cultural Row allows non-profit groups to promote programs that they feel are valuable to the community. At the festival, these groups disseminate information, hold raffles, answer questions, search for volunteers, and contribute to the overall positive nature of the event.

One of the groups that will participate in Cultural Row this year is Creative Edge Arts Studio (CEAS), a unique resource for adults recovering from mental illness and or addiction. An exp…

Tonight at 9 pm at the Sportsmen's Tavern at Grant near Amherst Street, John Bacon Jr., Don Menza, and Bobby Jones will play the second of two nights promoting their new CD, Jack Rabbit, on Cadence Jazz Records. They played Sunday night at Le Metro (photo by Celia White) to a very enthusiastic crowd, and tonight's reprise should not be missed. The Sportsmen's Tavern is another one of those superb smaller venues for catching a show.

Here's a little sneak peak at a few of the goods you'll find in the upcoming Summer/Fall 2005 issue of Buffalo Rising Magazine. (T minus 24 hours...) There are some exciting new businesses in the area that are being featured, along with some intriguing local artists and their studios. There are also a couple new music venues that have added to the scores of existing hot spots in the city. A few clothing shops will keep the fashion conscience at bay, and eateries continue to pop up as well. Our eighth issue should prove to be an exciting one... so look for the first copies around 10:00 tomorrow morning.
