Donut lovers and recyclers are mourning the loss of a local landmark this week. Uniland Development Company tore down the structure that housed Bucks 4 Bottles and formerly Dickie’s Donuts at 1866 Elmwood Avenue. The property at the northwest corner of Elmwood and hertel and those around it are being prepared for Uniland’s planned mixed-use development. The circa-1950 building is being removed, along with old fencing behind it, and the site will be cleared. The mortgage holder on the AM&A’s property has started foreclosure proceedings on the developer working to convert the project into a Wyndham Hotel. The Buffalo News reports Apollon Groups’ New Horizons Acquisitions is seeking to seize the building from developer Landco after it failed to pay off the mortgage in early November as required. From The News: Apollon, based in Roslyn Heights, N.Y., owned the 10-story complex at 377 Main St. before selling it to the Queens-based Landco in November 2014 for $2.775 million. It then extended Landco a $2.175 million mortgage, at 5 percent interest, with a personal guarantee…

Uniland Development Company has added to a cluster of Theater District properties it owns.  The developer purchased the Ellicott Station post office property at 677-701 Washington Street today for $3.05 million.  It is adjacent to and across from other properties Uniland owns on the western edge of the Theater District.  The post office building contains 9,408 sq.ft. and sits on a 1.99 acre site.  Uniland will be constructing a new facility for the post office next door along Washington Street, east of its office building at 520 Ellicott Street and north of the existing post office. “This was a unique opportunity…

Finishing touches are being added to the Ellicott-Goodrich parking ramp on the Medical Campus. The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC) tore down the site’s aging 900-space ramp that was owned by the City and is replacing it with a new ramp with 1,814 spaces spread across eight levels. A skybridge connects the fourth level of the ramp to the second floor of the John R. Oishei Children’s Hospital to the south. Revenue from the$45 million ramp is expected to reach $15 million over the next 30 years and BNMC and City will each receive 40 percent of the funds. Residents…

The Mentholatum at 1360 Niagara Street is a real head-turner during the day and is just as impressive at night.  Ciminelli Real Estate Corporation converted the former Mentholatum Company into a mix of apartments and 4,107 sq.ft. of retail space in a one-story wing on the north side of the building.  The $19 million project designed by CJS Architects welcomed its first tenants early this year. The yellow umbilical cord of life has been spotted on the west side of the C.W. Miller Livery Stable, signaling the start of renovation work at the historic building. The six-story former horse stable, located at 73 W. Huron Street, will be a second Emerson Culinary School. Residential projects in Waterfront Village, on Gates Circle and on upper Niagara Street will be reviewed by the Planning Board on Monday.  They will bring 95 apartments and 32 townhouses to market if approved as proposed.
