The Elmwood Village Association (EVA) will hold a Family Skate Day for all members from 1-2:50PM on Sunday, March 22nd at the Buffalo State Ice Arena. The cost of skating will be covered for the first 160 EVA members to arrive. Tonight the Burchfield Penney docent class of 2009 will host and present “Celebration of Creation.” Celebration of Creation is a display of artwork created during the docents’ eight-month training program. The artwork is created by the docents and reflects their response to nature. The nature theme was chosen in honor of Charles E. Burchfield. Angelo Coniglio has a vision for harbor development, and it doesn’t include a BassPro Shop (though he’s not opposed to it). The Buffalo Museum of Science has been selected to present mural-sized images of the spiral galaxy Messier 101 in celebration of the 400th anniversary of Galileo’s first look through a telescope into the sky. The images will be unveiled to the public in commemoration of the International Year of Astronomy 2009 at 1PM on Saturday, February 21st. The two images were taken by NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope, Spitzer Space Telescope, and Chandra X-ray Observatory.
