Sometimes the authors at Buffalo Rising work on collaborative efforts in order to cover various events and stories. These posts can not be attributed to one single author, as it is a combined effort. Often times a formation of a post gets started by one writer and passed along to one or more writers before completion. At times there are author attributions at the end of one of these posts. Other times, “Buffalo Rising” is simply offered up as the creator of the article. In either case, the writing is original to Buffalo Rising.

1088 Niagara Street is really coming along nicely. The infill on the street is great to see, especially after another nearby building was recently demolished (see here). This development was a big win for Buffalo. Originally, the building was going to be one-storey with parking in the front. Can you imagine? But instead of building something that would have looked deplorable on this up and coming section of Niagara Street, the community banded together and fought for something that would resemble a number of historic structures nearby. One of Albright-Knox’s latest public art initiatives is now complete. The gallery has been on a roll with its numerous public art projects, and the results are magnificent. The mural seen here was painted on the side of the Buffalo Center for Arts and Technology (BCAT) building, directly across from Delta Sonic on Main Street. This is a part of the city that could really benefit aesthetic building enhancements. This particular mural is NY-based artist Alice Mizrachi’s “Dream Keepers,” 2016. Saturday, 716 Day is going to be a busy, busy day for Buffalo. Between all of the races, celebrations, parties, festivals, outings, etc., the city will be hopping. Adding to all of the excitement is the Nickel City Triathlon that takes place at Gallagher Beach at Buffalo’s Outer Harbor State Park. Age group Olympic, Sprint, Duathlon, and Aquabike races – athletes race on the same course that the past Elites and Olympians raced on. Every year, Tifft Nature Preserve and Buffalo Harbor State Park team up to bring wind related activities to the Outer Harbor. The big draw for the day is the spectacular aerial performances put on by the Great Lakes Kitefliers Society. The group brings out a number of eye-catching kites that literally take over the skies of the waterfront. This is a wonderful family friendly day, filled with all sorts of kid’s crafts and flight-themed activities. There’s no disputing that the RiverWorks complex has brought a new energy to the Buffalo River but a new proposal has some asking, “How much is too much?” RiverWorks owner Doug Swift is seeking Planning Board approval to install a 60’ x 90’ LED screen on the east tower of the GLF Elevator. The screen will show events, advertisements, and other messages. The Old 1st Ward Community Association has not taken an official position on the proposal yet but is collecting feedback from residents that it will present to the Planning Board at its meeting next Wednesday. Celebrate Buffalo’s 716 Day with three art themed events this Saturday and help kick off prime gardening season in Buffalo. The Samuel P. Capen Garden Walk in the University Heights neighborhood begins the day and proves once again that Buffalo is a beautiful city with passionate gardening community. In conjunction with the Capen Garden Walk, the St. Andrew Sculpture Garden will officially open for the season at 10:00am and will remain opening into the evening. Earlier today, Canalside was taken over by hundreds of young students. The area was literally mobbed with young people who were running about enjoying the weather and the waterfront. Each year, throughout the nation, cities host a National Summer Learning Day, where children are taught to learn and retain positive habits outside of the school. The kids are also introduced to continuing learning opportunities and continuing healthy eating habits.
