On Saturday November 21, from 12pm-2pm, Riverkeeper will be hosting a discussion on current Riverkeeper-led projects, including Living Infrastructure and Living Shorelines.
Take a minute and think about Buffalo’s waterfront. There are so many opportunities, to take barren waterfront landscapes and rejuvenate them, by creating living shorelines.
The Outer Harbor is mostly a debris field of boulders and rocks. The majority of the parks located along the waterfront are built upon concrete barriers. The Scajaquada Creek is a hodgepodge of environments that include commercial, parking lots, former industrial and even an auto impound.
Living landscapes have the ability to filter chemicals from stormwater runoff. They also increase the visual aesthetics of the waterfront.
