It WAS a Wonderful Life is a theatrical production that tells the story of some of Forest Lawn’s most notable residents, as told by narrator John Lay, the first person to be laid to rest at the cemetery. It WAS a Wonderful Life is an original performance that takes place at the wonderful Forest Lawn chapel. The show is accompanied by musical theater performers, who help to tell the tales of Christmases past, through the eyes of those whose names still resound throughout the Buffalo community.
Among other characters, two of the featured legendary characters are:
Shirley Chisholm, the first African-American woman elected to the U.S. House of Representatives (where she served from 1969 to 1982) and the first woman from a major party to run for President of the United States
John Dover, a private who served in the Union Army during the Civil War as a member of the 54th Massachusetts Infantry, the first exclusively African American unit to fight in the war. The unit’s story is told in the Academy Award winning film, Glory.
Come see what all of the holiday hoopla is all about, and be a part of a holiday tradition that many have come to appreciate in Buffalo.
