Flying Bison Brewery has brewed a new beer dedicated to the memory of former Buffalo Mayor, Jimmy “Six Pack” Griffin. The aptly named beer reflects the Mayor’s sense of humor, especially when it came to the Blizzard of ’85. During the blizzard, Griffin suggested to people that they grab a six pack of beer and stay home, which many people took to heart.
In just a few hours, the beer called “HIZZONER” will be tapped at Flying Bison. The ceremony will coincide with the Run Jimmy Run Charity 5k. Griffin was a fan of beer, small business, and South Buffalo – all of the reasons that he would have tipped his hat to this special occasion.
“I’m not quite sure what my dad would think of having a beer named in his honor,” said Maureen Tomczak, one of Mayor Griffin’s three children who’ll be there for the unveiling. “I do know that he’d be proud that people would be thinking of him, having a good time and enjoying themselves, in a new and rebounding Buffalo.”
