Local filmmakers Mary Wall and Eric Wojtanik are setting out to produce a film that they say will tell the story of the Buffalo Sabres hockey team through the eyes and the hearts of the fans. We all know how exhilarating and depressing it can be, to be a Buffalo sports fan. Now it’s time to show just how much we have come to love and respect hockey in Buffalo. From the days of the French Connection, to the team building efforts of the Pegulas, there is a great story to be told, called The Fan Connection.
Now these heart breaking and heart warming stories are going to come to life once again, with the help of Sabres fans from near and far. In order to get the film rolling, the producers have launched a Kickstarter campaign that has already garnered $26,700 of the $96,500 goal (in just 10 days).
These are the ways that you can make a difference:
- Contribute to their Kickstarter page in any amount from $1 to $10,000
- Attend their Kickstarter Party at the Pan-American Grill & Brewery at the Hotel @ the Lafayette on Sat., Oct. 24th from 5:30PM-11:30PM. There will be free food, special guests, raffles, and, hopefully, a Sabres win to celebrate
- Share the project and event with everyone you know. More information can be found on their website
- Follow the project on Facebook and Twitter
“Every team has its fans. Every fan has a story. This documentary is the story of Buffalo Sabres’ fans and the city they call home.” – The Fan Connection
$96,500 might seem like a lot, but when you consider that the filmmakers have already been following the 12 diehard fans around for three years, plus all of the production costs, it all adds up.
In the end, these are the types of movies that we can rally around, because we’re all supporters and fans of this incredible city that has shaped us over the years. Let’s hope that this story has a chance to get told in the way that it needs to be, for the whole world to understand what it means to be a Buffalo sports fan.
