Once a year, Elmwood Avenue businesses rally together to raise money and awareness for a special cause – American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. Incredibly, the Shoptober Bra Crawl has grown to include over 35 businesses in 2015.
Many of the business owners display an artist inspired/decorated bra in the front window, signaling that he or she supports the worthy cause. At the same time, the owners donate 15% of the evening’s sales (from 5pm to 8pm) to the charity.
As for the bras, they are on display in shop windows throughout the month of October. Shoppers are able to vote for their favorite creation on October 15 (the evening of the event).
“This is an excellent opportunity for us to show unity in the Elmwood Village, while supporting a great organization, with a night of local shopping, fashion, food, and giving back – our Elmwood community standing strong!” says Susan Morreale, Owner of Her Story Boutique, co-creator of the Bra Crawl Shoptober event, and a breast cancer survivor herself.
Joining the shops participating in the event, select restaurants will be concocting “pink cocktails” to show their support for the cause.
