The gas station at the corner of Elmwood and Delavan was officially leveled yesterday. At long last, one of the street’s biggest eyesores is gone, making room for one of the area’s most exciting infill developments by Ellicott Development. Not only will the building be one of the more appropriately urban-esque, mixed-use infill projects in the city, it will also feature a new wood fired pizzeria and Italian eatery called Gianni’s (by Local Boys Restaurant Group).
For years, this corner has been disrupted by the vapid Elmwood Delavan Food Mart station, which has disrupted the flow of walkability in the neighborhood. The corner is bounded by mostly street sensitive commercial and residential infill. The following rendering is what neighbors can now expect to see built at the corner, though there may have been some minor tweaks since being released last year.
Hopefully Ellicott Development will be as sensitive to the needs of another jacked up corner, not far away at the corner of Delaware and Delavan (see here). Now that would really be something!
