Kenmore Avenue needs some help. Over the years the street has turned into a place that has little character, dictated by wide roads, poor infrastructure decisions, and rampant cooking cutter architectural design blunders. Street corners are filled with Rite-Aid style businesses, lame lawyer-spewing billboards, vast parking lots, unsafe walking and biking conditions… the list goes on and on.
It’s unfortunate too, because there are some glimmers of hope along the street – some nice housing, restaurants and buildings that could come together as a catalyst for positive change, if there was a driving force behind the initiative.
Unfortunately things don’t appear to be getting brighter for the street. University Heights Collaborative (UHC) has released the most recent renderings of the Uncle Bob’s Self-Storage Facility (416 Kenmore Avenue), which was approved by the Zoning Board in May. In order to get that approval, owner Joe Dash “made some cosmetic changes and added a green space buffer so that the new use will ‘fit in nicely with the neighborhood.'” Plans to put up rows of storage units in the parking lot were dropped.
According to UHC:
The project will go before the Planning Board on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2015 at 8:15 AM in Room 901.
