The Buffalo Zoo will be opening its newest exhibit, which broke ground in February of 2014. The 1.5 acre Arctic Edge exhibit is designed to accommodate polar bears, the Eurasian lynx, American bald eagles, and Arctic wolves. Among the inhabitants will be Luna the polar bear, along with her mother (Anana) who will be returning home to Buffalo now that the exhibit is complete. The arctic feature is part of an $18 million zoo upgrade package that includes naturalistic landscaping, underwater viewing opportunities, along with a new entry plaza.
“It’s been a long time in the making,” said Zoo President and CEO Dr. Donna Fernandes. “We know the community is looking forward to finally seeing the exhibit, but no one is more excited for the opening of Arctic Edge than we are.”
Arctic Edge will open to the public on Saturday, September 12, 2015.
Arctic Edge will be open during regular Zoo hours, and free to visit with regular Zoo admission. For more information, visit www.buffalozoo.org or call (716) 837-3900.
