New Skateland Arena is getting a partial facade makeover, with some new murals being added by a notable area artist. The first piece of the mural series has been completed by Chuck Tingley, a prolific muralist whose works can be seen all over the city.
In recent months, New Skateland Arena has been on a mission to attract more roller skaters to the facility, which boasts a large rink and a smaller rink. The venue is now the home of the Nickel City Renegade Rollergirls – a new league to the city, which has been established by organizer Psyko Kupkake.
This stretch of East Ferry is also the epicenter of a series of art social art projects by the Ferry Street Corridor Project, which was headed up by community activist Mark Goldman over the summer. The Ferry Street Corridor Project is an effort that falls under the umbrella of Friends of the Buffalo Story. A block party is scheduled to be held next Sunday to recognize the new mural and similar grassroots efforts in the neighborhood.
