Since 2011, ReUse Action has been providing the city with building materials that it has sourced from the buildings that it has dismantled in the Northeast.
In late September, the Green Demolition Team will be taking another leap forward, as it opens a new retail operation, featuring the salvaged materials that it has acquired. Many local contractors and builders opt to incorporate reused building materials into their construction and restoration projects. From price, to quality, to sourcing hard to find materials, not to mention the responsible environmental aspect, the philosophy behind ReUse Action is one that should be respected and built upon. By incorporating retail into the mix, ReUse states that it will be adding a youth job training element into its business practice.
This is welcome news for the city’s East Side. Action HQ is destined to become a bustling anchor in the neighborhood, and could help to inspire others to tackle similar projects nearby.
On September 12 (9 am to 4 pm), the public is invited to meet the Green Demolition Team at 980 Northampton Street in “Buffalo’s historic Milk-Bone District”. Guests will be shown around the various ReUse components, including Action HQ (retail component) and The Guild @ 980 (a center for green jobs training, green materials and the restoration arts). The event will include live music, food, upcycled art works, and tours of the circa 1920 building, which happens to be located along the Belt Line.
*Starting September 12th, the store will be open Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 9 am to 4 pm. More information can be found at www.reuseaction.com.
