On Thursday October 15 at 7:00 pm, a rally/meeting will be held at 3200 South Park Avenue in Lackawanna, NY to show solidarity for a clean Lackawanna Waterfront. A growing coalition of citizens from across WNY have voiced their opinions that Buffalo’s entire waterfront needs to be protected from interests that would see contaminants from Buffalo’s steel days relocated and concentrated (at the waterfront) instead of being removed completely.
The time is now to have our voices heard regarding the future of the Lackawanna waterfront. This is the second meeting of this nature, which will hopefully lead to a consolidated effort and action plan.
As Buffalo environmental organizations preach the benefits of a “Blueway Trail” of waterfront parks that tie together the area’s aquatic destinations, actions must be made to include Lackawanna by cleaning and removing the land’s toxins – instead of simply moving the contaminants about. After all, this is not just about Lackawanna citizens. This is about a collective, growing waterfront that everyone is able to appreciate.
