As we know, hundreds of volunteers have planted thousands of trees since Re-Tree WNY began reforesting after the devastating snowstorm of 2006. Throughout the city, we now have green, thriving trees in neighborhoods which were heavily damaged or treeless. While reforesting has revitalized our tree-scape, these newly planted trees have suffered injuries due to weather conditions, plowing, mowing, vandalism, or other mishaps, and need our attention to ensure they remain healthy for many generations to come.
We are inviting volunteers and community members to assist us as we canvas the streets of Buffalo to assess, re-stake, re-tie, and prune the trees planted over the past Spring and Fall in a series of free Tree Stewardship Workshops.
Caesandra Seawell, Program Manager for Keep Western New York Beautiful (KWNYB), and trained staff from the University Heights Tool Library (UHTL) will be on site for hands-on demonstrations of how to properly prune newly planted trees, as well as tips to keep trees of all ages healthy and happy.
This is a Learn by Doing workshop where No Skills Are Required! We will train you. Once trained, workshop participants can attend other sessions in different areas of the city to hone their skills or schedule their own stewardship events. Together we can return WNY to the beautiful urban forest it once was…
