Red Siren has opened at the waterfront – HarborCenter to be exact. The colorful boutique, owned and operated by Sharon Randaccio, brings with it a professional retail operation that is outfitted to the gills with “strong, alluring, playful & unique” finds that harken back to the days of a handful of the city’s past celebrated boutique gift shops, including Pitt Petri and Pappagallo. Red Siren is also infused with a hint of urban chic, according to Sharon.
Red Siren opened on the July 4th weekend, and since that time the sales staff has been busy stockpiling the shelves with clever, irresistible finds that are reminiscent of items that might normally be found along popular commercial strips at seaside resorts (without the junk). “Originally, I had no interest in getting into retail,” Sharon told me. “It was only when this retail opportunity surfaced that I decided to jump on it and be a pioneer. This is my third career. I was a banker at M&T, I owned a successful consulting company, and now I’ve set out to show what women can accomplish in this city. The way that I look at it – this isn’t retail… this is entertainment. We’re offering clothing, accessories and gifts that are convenient, entertaining and stylish. It’s about hospitality too. When people come to stay at Canalside, I want to offer urban chic and hospitality all under one roof. This is for people who are living in downtown Buffalo, and playing at the waterfront. It’s for the tourists, and the people who explore the city. It’s about being happy and enjoying our city.”
Glancing around Red Siren, there are plenty of put-together, thoughtful, eye-catching surprises on any given rack or shelf. Sharon has a great eye for detail, design, merchandise and displays. There’s upscale merchandise for those looking for sought after wedding presents, and impulse purchases abound. From jewelry lines to bathing suits (three changing rooms) to handbags and engraved gifts… there are even some accessories for Fido.
It’s time to welcome Red Siren to Canalside, and at the same time celebrate the birth of retail on the waterfront.
If you work along the Metro Rail route, or you’re taking a stroll around Canalside, it’s time to get to know the new face of retail in Buffalo.
