It wasn’t long ago that the we all heard that the Gus Macker basketball tournament would not be held in Buffalo in 2015. After that, Gus Macker did manage to find a regional home, though by then another diehard basketball organization called Buffalo City Hoops (BCH) had formed, and was already hatching plans to host its own tournament, which has been progressing throughout the months of July and August.
Now the culmination of those matches is at hand. The (free to play) regular season games were held at a number of locations throughout the city, meaning that the various leagues will be advancing their top teams from each division.
On Saturday, August 29, a Grand Finale Championship will be held at Masten Park, from 12pm to 8pm. The division winning teams will go head to head throughout the day, battling it out for top honors.
“Our mission is to provide structural and organized basketball as a recreational outlet for our youth in the city of buffalo, in a safe, competitive, and good natured atmosphere. We aim to promote education and violence prevention, while developing positive life skills for the advancement of our collective community, one neighborhood at a time.”
Not having a Gus Macker-style basketball tournament in the city of Buffalo was not an option. Therefore, a dedicated group of volunteers has been working hard, week to week, in order to pull of a tantamount feat.

Now it’s time to go support the teams, and the tournament, that are ensuring that competition-style basketball lives on in Buffalo from this point forward.
