Houston, we may have a problem. It only takes one bad egg to ruin an omelette. In this case, word on the street is that the Tim Hortons on Lafayette Square (at Main Street) is that bad egg. A BRO reader has reached out to us to alert us to a problem that he feels is becoming a very troublesome issue in the neighborhood, and it’s affecting the quality of life for anyone who lives and works in the neighborhood. To add insult to injury, if The Mayor looked out of his window, he could possibly see some of the illicit activity that is being conducted in and around the Tim Hortons location.
“An officer told me two weeks ago how an employee there was making side deals allowing this crap to take place,” the BRO reader who works in the neighborhood told me. “[I believe that] the Parole Office located down the street has a big part of it, as is the Methadone Clinic. We’ve been hearing lately that despite the drug dealing and addicts, we now have prostitution going on in the area. Even my boss, co-workers and volunteers have heard girls soliciting to fellows while waiting in line for coffee. It’s not just at Tim Hortons, although that appears to be a magnet for illicit activity. There is a regular who sells weed right in front of our windows (nearby building) as if we can’t see him. The cops know him – they know what he’s doing, but I understand that they need an undercover officer to buy from him in order to arrest him.”
Now the question is, do we just continue to let this illicit activity take place? Or do we do something about it? I can’t imagine that with all of the progress that we are making, returning cars to Main Street, that we are simply going to sit back and let this prominent city corner go to pot.
