Looking back at the games that I played when I was young, I remember needing a bit more imagination, as playtime was spent primarily outdoors. There was no such thing as sitting in front of a TV or playing video games. At the same time, I know that generations before me were even more creative when it came to using the imagination. Instead of playing with toys that were made overseas, my grandfather would play with toys that were made by hand, most likely by artisans who lived right here in Buffalo.
On Sunday, August 16, 2015, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm, local artist Chris Kameck will be building and supplying handmade outdoor games to anyone who wants to try them out. There will be gig racing, toys and games, face painting by SketchTina, a picnic lunch, juice samples from Ashker’s, among myriad other outdoor creative activities.
The event will be held at Mutual Riverfront Park along the Buffalo River. There will be plenty of safe, thoughtful, imaginative activities for the kids, which will get them away from their world of electronics for a few hours.
