Newbury Street Café is expanding into a retail space to the north of its Elmwood location at the corner of Hodge. The expansion will double the amount of space that the business currently occupies. The restaurant will use the expanded space for additional seating and prep space. Most of the prep space was located in the basement of the restaurant, which was a hassle for the workers. The addition will help to make the operation run smoother.
I recently ate a “make your own” burrito at Newbury Street, and was very pleased with the creation. The burritos are similar to the ones that Chipotle makes. Mine was super fresh, made with brown rice, black beans, jalapeño pepper humus, cheddar cheese, garbanzo beans, sliced cherry tomatoes and dressing. The wraps are substantial in size and filling, but don’t weigh you down.
I’m happy to see the eatery taking over the former hair salon that was next door. I love the appearance of Newbury Street on the corner, and I feel that the business adds a lot to a block of Elmwood that has always struggled to keep up with the rest of the street.
