Benchmark Group’s infill project at 766 Elmwood Avenue is taking final shape. The three-story mixed-use building will include retail along Elmwood and 24 single and two-bedroom apartments on the upper floors. Twenty-five parking spaces will be provided for building tenants.
The project occupies what was a surface parking lot between Globe Market and 7-11. Karl Frizlen, with The Frizlen Group, is the project architect. The building features precast sandstone and Hardi-Plank siding on the outside of the building and a flat roof.
Amherst-based, Benchmark owns a number of area commercial and residential properties, including the Stuyvesant Plaza on Elmwood at North and the retail building housing Spot Coffee, Panera Bread, and Agave across from the site at 765 Elmwood. In September, Benchmark was selected by the City to acquire the Market Arcade Cinema complex. Benchmark will be working with AMC Theaters on a $9 million makeover of the Theater District complex. Pending final City approvals, the revamped theater complex is expected to open next April.
